Recently while picking/Junking with a girlfriend every time we saw something we liked she would say, “Oh, one of us has to get that!” Generally we like the same things so you would think deciding who actually got it would be a problem, but it always worked out.
On our most recent junking day together our picker friend was unloading his truck with all kinds of delights. He was like Mary Poppins digging treasures out of the bottom of a truck bed that never seemed to end.
Then a most spectacular old trunk was pulled right out of what we thought must be an empty truck bed, and of course she says ….”Oh, one of us has to get that”. This trunk would have been hard for either of us to pass up, and even harder to decide who was going to get it, until she opened it.
To my delight there was a stack of what looked like old magazines inside. I am a magazine junkie, although they just stack up for lack of time to read them all. I get so many subscriptions that they offer me gift subscriptions which I have mailed to the shop to share. You can imagine my delight to have found OLD magazines in that magic trunk.
They were not in perfect condition, worn and yellowed around the edges a bit, most didn’t even have covers. But, when I started to go through them, I couldn’t believe the pictures, the ads and the stories. There were Ladies Home Journal, McCalls, & Saturday Evening Post, to name a few that dated back to 1914. All I could think of was the myriad of things I could do with the pages. Decoupage, framing, drawer lining, the possibilities became endless.
So, the amazing thing was, I was no longer interested in the trunk itself and we didn't have to decide who was going to "Get" it. My love had moved to the content inside. Moral of the Blog, "Each of us had to Get that."
